Description

Every BHAKTA bottle carries a year, not an age statement. This one was distilled from a single harvest in 1996, laid down in oak, and left to the slow work of Gascon cellars until it was ready, years later, to be bottled exactly as it came out of the cask.

Tasting Notes
Aspect Deep orange with golden highlights.
Nose Candy sweet sensation on the first nosing. Sharp, clean, and straight with almost mentholated notes that refresh the nostrils. Floral and fresh fruit notes of orange and ripe peaches.
Palate Powerful attack that is complex in flavor. Notes of soft spice like nutmeg invade the mouth. Nuts, old library books, and long unopened oak drawers. Vibrant and very alive, though gentle, with no aggressivity despite the high alcohol. Truly superb, with broad shoulders, and an equally superb long finish with dried fruits and nuts. Great quality.

The Vintage Story

1996

The year in the bottle

Great Britain’s Prince Charles and Princess Diana get divorced. Bill Clinton is reelected. Presaging the dotcom bubble, Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan questions whether the stock market is overvalued. Tiger Woods makes his professional golf debut on the PGA Tour. GM produces the first electric car of the modern era; meanwhile, chessmaster Garry Kasparov defeats IBM supercomputer “Deep Blue” in a rematch. The “Macarena” tops the charts—and sparks an unfortunate dance trend unlike any other.

Media Reviews

“In this vintage paradigm, every release is special, limited in quantity — there’s only so much of any given spirit made in any given year.”
“You don’t have to love brandy to love this. . . Terrific sipping and thus an epic preview of things to come from the nascent producer.”
“The World’s Best Bourbon.”
