Description

Every BHAKTA bottle carries a year, not an age statement. This one was distilled from a single harvest in 1983, laid down in oak, and left to the slow work of Gascon cellars until it was ready, years later, to be bottled exactly as it came out of the cask.

Tasting Notes
Aspect Golden amber color that is quite light.
Nose Despite its 39 years, the fresh fruit is very evident. Lemons and lemon meringue pie. Nuts like walnuts and some notes of beeswax. Youthful and bright. Soft spices like nutmeg and vanilla.
Palate Powerful attack with lots of peppery spice and very light oak. Despite its strength, it is very delicate and refined in the mouth. Clean and straightforward with stone fruits. Tannins appear and lend some dryness on the finish that persists in its power.

The Vintage Story

1983

The year in the bottle

New technologies and means of communication change culture forever. Motorola introduces the first mobile phones. CDs go on sale in the US. McDonald’s releases the McNugget. Michael Jackson releases Thriller, which will spend thirty-seven weeks at the top of the charts before going on to become the highest-selling album of all time. Chrysler begins production on the first minivans, which will soon become a staple of suburban life. Return of the Jedi, billed as the final installment of the Star Wars franchise, tops the box office. Members of the rock band Kiss show their faces without makeup for the first time—on MTV, of course. An obscure Department of Defense computer project called ARPANET updates its protocol, officially creating something called the “Internet.”

Media Reviews

“In this vintage paradigm, every release is special, limited in quantity — there’s only so much of any given spirit made in any given year.”
“You don’t have to love brandy to love this. . . Terrific sipping and thus an epic preview of things to come from the nascent producer.”
“The World’s Best Bourbon.”
