Description

Every BHAKTA bottle carries a year, not an age statement. This one was distilled from a single harvest in 1981, laid down in oak, and left to the slow work of Gascon cellars until it was ready, years later, to be bottled exactly as it came out of the cask.

Tasting Notes
Aspect Deep orangey brown.
Nose Very appealing nose with fat, rich prunes, vanilla custard, toasted oak, and demerara sugar. A touch of soft spice like cinnamon and nutmeg. Roasting nuts and baked pears. Fresh, crunchy Granny Smith apples and vanilla sponge cake.
Palate Very spicy attack that takes you by surprise and wakes up your taste buds. Rich and creamy with notes of very rich dark chocolate cake with hazelnuts. Bold, yet mellow and extremely round, yet fiery with peppery spice. Lovely, long warming finish that lasts for ages. Cries out for a cigar or some chocolate-covered ginger to accompany it.

The Vintage Story

1981

The year in the bottle

A decade of change is well underway, bringing with it new novelties as culture rapidly evolves. MTV launches, proving that “video killed the radio star”—while fashion divides into more polarized camps than ever, defining a decade of big hair, shoulder pads, punk, and the resurgence of the preppie aesthetic. Coincidentally, so begins the age of the yuppie and a renewed interest in conservatism as defined by the rise of newly-elected President Ronald Reagan. Walter Cronkite signs off for the last time. The first American test-tube baby is born. Donkey Kong is released; Nintendo debuts its Mario character. Sandra Day O’Connor makes history as the first female justice to join the US Supreme Court. NASA launches its first Space Shuttle, DeLorean debuts the DMC-12, and IBM introduces the first PC to use MS-DOS.

Media Reviews

“In this vintage paradigm, every release is special, limited in quantity — there’s only so much of any given spirit made in any given year.”
“You don’t have to love brandy to love this. . . Terrific sipping and thus an epic preview of things to come from the nascent producer.”
“The World’s Best Bourbon.”
