Description

Every BHAKTA bottle carries a year, not an age statement. This one was distilled from a single harvest in 1974, laid down in oak, and left to the slow work of Gascon cellars until it was ready, years later, to be bottled exactly as it came out of the cask.

Tasting Notes
Aspect Brown with bright orange highlights.
Nose Toasted bread, caramel, and a touch of coffee. Creamy vanilla and fudge with ripe stone fruits. A touch of varnish and woodland undergrowth with some mushrooms.
Palate Bright and explosive attack that quickly mellows. Rich fruit cake with marzipan and a touch of cocoa. Powerful yet soft. An iron fist in a velvet glove. Long, pleasant finish with mellow oak. A little dry on the finish. Excellent digestive and would complement a cigar.

The Vintage Story

1974

The year in the bottle

President Nixon resigns as the Watergate scandal engulfs his administration. The Rubiks Cube is invented; famously nerdy tabletop game Dungeons & Dragons sees release. Pepsi becomes the first American company to sell its products in the Soviet Union. Around the world, Charles de Gaulle Airport opens in Paris, the Terracotta Army is discovered in China, and Volkswagen launches the Golf in Germany to replace its iconic Beetle—world record-holder for the car with the most units ever produced. “The Way We Were” by Barbra Streisand is the year’s top song, Mel Brooks’ Blazing Saddles is the highest-grossing film, and John Lennon gives his final public performance. The first commercial barcode is scanned. The sale? A package of Wrigley gum.

Media Reviews

“In this vintage paradigm, every release is special, limited in quantity — there’s only so much of any given spirit made in any given year.”
“You don’t have to love brandy to love this. . . Terrific sipping and thus an epic preview of things to come from the nascent producer.”
“The World’s Best Bourbon.”
