Description

Every BHAKTA bottle carries a year, not an age statement. This one was distilled from a single harvest in 1970, laid down in oak, and left to the slow work of Gascon cellars until it was ready, years later, to be bottled exactly as it came out of the cask.

Tasting Notes
Aspect Chestnut brown.
Nose Creamy and rich with patisserie/biscuit notes like custard and vanilla.
Palate Sweet and very spicy pepper in the mouth, well-balanced tannins and round. Prunes, dates, figs, and a fresh note that is almost mentholated—lifting the ensemble. Lovely, long finish.

The Vintage Story

1970

The year in the bottle

One turbulent decade closes—and another begins. The Vietnam War reaches a fever pitch with America’s invasion of Cambodia. The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty goes into effect. NASA’s Apollo 13 mission to the Moon is disrupted by an exploding oxygen tank; the crew is forced to abort, but safely splash down in the Pacific. NBC Nightly News premieres, the first Earth Day is celebrated, the inaugural New York City Marathon is held, and the North Tower of the World Trade Center is completed—now the tallest building in the world. Both Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin are dead at 27. Paul McCartney announces the breakup of The Beatles.

Media Reviews

“In this vintage paradigm, every release is special, limited in quantity — there’s only so much of any given spirit made in any given year.”
“You don’t have to love brandy to love this. . . Terrific sipping and thus an epic preview of things to come from the nascent producer.”
“The World’s Best Bourbon.”
