Description

Every BHAKTA bottle carries a year, not an age statement. This one was distilled from a single harvest in 1956, laid down in oak, and left to the slow work of Gascon cellars until it was ready, years later, to be bottled exactly as it came out of the cask.

Tasting Notes
Aspect Deep mahogany brown with copper highlights.
Nose Incredibly treacly nose with burnt caramel and earthy notes.
Palate Deep, dark earthy notes of hummus and forest floor upon first tasting. Overripe fruits. Musky in a good sense like old libraries and leather chairs, pipe smoke and wood fires. Very nutty like crushed hazelnuts, dark chocolate, and praline. Notes of great maturity and age... dream on!

The Vintage Story

1956

The year in the bottle

Peace and stability yield an unparalleled era of innovation, novelty, and entertainment. IBM invents the first computer disk, nonstick frying pans debut, and the snooze alarm clock is introduced. The Interstate Highway System is created. Marilyn Monroe marries playwright Arthur Miller. Heavyweight boxing champion Rocky Marciano retires, having never lost a professional boxing match. The Wizard of Oz becomes the first feature film to be televised uncut in one evening. Elvis Presley appears on The Ed Sullivan Show and 60 million viewers tune in—a record 82.6% of the television audience. Anthony Bourdain, Larry Bird, Bill Maher, and Mel Gibson are born—showing that the Age of Entertainment will last for another half-century.

Media Reviews

“In this vintage paradigm, every release is special, limited in quantity — there’s only so much of any given spirit made in any given year.”
“You don’t have to love brandy to love this. . . Terrific sipping and thus an epic preview of things to come from the nascent producer.”
“The World’s Best Bourbon.”
