Description

Every BHAKTA bottle carries a year, not an age statement. This one was distilled from a single harvest in 1952, laid down in oak, and left to the slow work of Gascon cellars until it was ready, years later, to be bottled exactly as it came out of the cask.

Tasting Notes
Aspect Deep reddy mahogany color with orangey amber highlights.
Nose Quite a sharp, slightly acidic nose. Nuts and dried fruits like figs and walnuts. A touch of caramel.
Palate Initial sweet sensation followed immediately by a very powerful and bold attack of tannins. Well-balanced. Candied orange and gingerbread. Very smooth with well-integrated very present tannins. A little spice like nutmeg and allspice. Spiced biscuits. Powerful finish with ever-present mellow tannins, though not very long-lasting.

The Vintage Story

1952

The year in the bottle

A world order rebuilt and reimagined—and with it, major breakthroughs at all levels of life. A chapter of world history closes as the Treaty of San Francisco goes into effect, seeing WWII’s Allied Powers formally end their occupation of Japan. Polio is cured once and for all with the introduction of a safe and effective vaccine. A mechanical heart is used for the first time in a human patient, and the first successful surgery to separate Siamese twins is conducted. The Today Show premieres on NBC. The airbag is invented; gas costs only 20 cents a gallon. Kurt Vonnegut publishes his first novel. Helping to increase public interest in the Space Race, aerospace pioneer Wernher von Braun publishes Man Will Conquer Space Soon!, which includes ideas for manned flights to Mars and the Moon.

Media Reviews

“In this vintage paradigm, every release is special, limited in quantity — there’s only so much of any given spirit made in any given year.”
“You don’t have to love brandy to love this. . . Terrific sipping and thus an epic preview of things to come from the nascent producer.”
“The World’s Best Bourbon.”
