Description

Every BHAKTA bottle carries a year, not an age statement. This one was distilled from a single harvest in 1946, laid down in oak, and left to the slow work of Gascon cellars until it was ready, years later, to be bottled exactly as it came out of the cask.

Tasting Notes
Aspect Bright, horse chestnut brown color with orange highlights.
Nose Condensed milk and salted caramel patisserie notes. Brioche and butter fudge. Faint hint of copper. Forest floor and baskets of nuts. Pressed fresh fruit like quince and apple. Apple crumble. Peach melba with rich vanilla ice cream.
Palate Tangy, fresh, and ripe fruit with bold tannins that appear after the initial taste. Quite juicy and saliva-inducing, yet slightly dry finish with notes of nuts, and hints of licorice. Burnt caramel and cigar boxes persist.

The Vintage Story

1946

The year in the bottle

Charles de Gaulle, namesake of BHAKTA 50 Barrel 29, resigns as president of France. Truman officially ends WW2 hostilities. Italy is declared a republic. It’s a Wonderful Life premieres in New York City. Convicted Nazi war criminal, Hermann Göring, poisons himself two hours before his execution at Nuremberg. In America, the company that would become Chick-fil-A is founded. The United States conducts nuclear weapon tests on Micronesia’s Bikini Atoll; coincidentally, the first bikini swimsuit is modeled in Paris four days later.

Media Reviews

“In this vintage paradigm, every release is special, limited in quantity — there’s only so much of any given spirit made in any given year.”
“You don’t have to love brandy to love this. . . Terrific sipping and thus an epic preview of things to come from the nascent producer.”
“The World’s Best Bourbon.”
